What is a Budget? A Blueprint for Happiness?
A budget is your financial blueprint. A builder wouldn't dream of starting construction without a blueprint. The blueprint guides the builder through the building process and projects an end result. You should have a similar blueprint to construct a picture of your finances. What is a budget? It's your blueprint to building financial security, independence, and wealth.
A budget should be a requirement for planning life, just as a blueprint is a requirement for planning construction. Budgets organize finance information for easy review and analysis. Budgeting not only organizes your current financial information, it provides a foundation for planning a larger financial picture. Including a plan to provide for future financial security is essential. What is budgeting without a financial plan? It's just a blueprint without an end result.
A budget should address the complete finance plan. It should manage your cash flow (money that comes in and money that goes out), track spending, budget household and personal expenses, prepare for emergencies, and fund savings and investment goals. In effect, it guides you through today's living and into a financially secure and independent future life.
It's easy to get caught up in living for today. Let's face it, spending money without regard is a lot more fun than budgeting your money. However, budgeting serves a greater purpose and has many benefits. It prepares you for life. A budget can keep your plan for life on track. I recently heard a saying that went something like this "plan as though you will live forever, but live as though you would die today." I believe this means to live and have fun today, but don't lose site of your future. Budgeting can help you do both.
Budgeting identifies overspending and financial problems before they get out of control. This is especially true when it comes to managing debt. Budgets keep debt under control since, debt can be accumulated as a direct result of overspending and poor money management skills. Accumulating substantial debt will limit funds available for building wealth and achieving your savings and investment goals. A personal finance budget plan will help you manage credit responsibly.
Proper money management provides the potential for building wealth, reaching goals, and making dreams come true. Create a personal finance budget plan and manage your money for life. A budget is your key to living life at it's best, now and into the future. A budget could very well be your blueprint for happiness!
