Budget Forms Foundation

Your budget forms the foundation for your complete finance plan. Just like your home's foundation, your financial foundation should be steady, strong, and designed to meet individual needs. It stands to reason that you should give the form of budget you choose some serious consideration to assure success in your budgeting tasks. The budget form you choose should reflect your individual needs, and your personality. Choose one that you are most likely to maintain and stick to.

There are basically three main categories of budgeting forms. The first, and most popular today, are online budgets. An online budget software can not only manage your budget efficiently, but your time as well. People are finding this form of budgeting to be reliable, efficient, organized, and maintained with less effort than traditional budget forms. Various budgeting worksheets, spreadsheets, and forms are pre-categorized and ready to use by simply entering your own personal information. These might include essential budgeting tools like cash flow record forms, a net worth spreadsheet, spending and budget category worksheets, and income record forms.

Another popular form of budgeting is a computer software program that installs on your personal computer and, does not require the use of the Internet. This is an excellent option if you choose not to conduct personal finance business online. You will still save time overall using the pre-categorized forms available with most budgeting software. A computer budget software should provide you with much the same forms as an online budgeting program. The complexity of the software program you choose will dictate the ease of use of your spreadsheet, worksheets and other financial forms.

The third, and most basic, budgeting form is the written budget planner. It consists of a set of pre-printed or hand written worksheets or a financial planning book. This is a basic, frugal, form a budgeting that is great if you have limited funds and simply can't afford a more advanced budgeting option. All that is actually required is a simple notebook or pencil and paper. You create your own budget worksheet or planner. This form can save you money but, it may not be effective for those who lack organization and self discipline. After all, no budget is worth the paper it's written on, if you don't follow through with it.

Choosing a budgeting program that meets your needs is important to budgeting success. More complex finances may require more complex budgeting tools. It depends on how organized and disciplined you are in managing your finances. Choosing the easiest, yet most affordable, form of budgeting to meet your individual needs is a great start to building your personal finance foundation.
